Spirit of Fear
2 Tim. 1:7-8 For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind. Be not thou therefore ashamed of the testimony of our Lord, nor of me his prisoner: but be thou partaker of the afflictions of the gospel according to the power of God;
God has not given us the spirit of fear because;
- God is our shield - Gen. 15:1 After these things the word of the LORD came unto Abram in a vision, saying, Fear not, Abram: I am thy shield, and thy exceeding great reward.
- God hears the voice of the afflicted - Gen. 21:17 And God heard the voice of the lad; and the angel of God called to Hagar out of heaven, and said unto her, What aileth thee, Hagar? fear not; for God hath heard the voice of the lad where he is.
- God is with us - Gen. 26:24 And the LORD appeared unto him the same night, and said, I am the God of Abraham thy father: fear not, for I am with thee, and will bless thee, and multiply thy seed for my servant Abraham's sake.
- Salvation is of God - Ex. 14:13 And Moses said unto the people, Fear ye not, stand still, and see the salvation of the LORD, which he will shew to you to day: for the Egyptians whom ye have seen to day, ye shall see them again no more for ever.
- God shall fight for us - Deut. 3:22 Ye shall not fear them: for the LORD your God he shall fight for you.
- God will not fail nor forsake us - Deut. 31:6 Be strong and of a good courage, fear not, nor be afraid of them: for the LORD thy God, he it is that doth go with thee; he will not fail thee, nor forsake thee. 1 Chr. 28:20 And David said to Solomon his son, Be strong and of good courage, and do it: fear not, nor be dismayed: for the LORD God, even my God, will be with thee; he will not fail thee, nor forsake thee, until thou hast finished all the work for the service of the house of the LORD.
- They that be with us are more than they that be with them - 2 Kings 6:15-17 And when the servant of the man of God was risen early, and gone forth, behold, an host compassed the city both with horses and chariots. And his servant said unto him, Alas, my master! how shall we do? And he answered, Fear not: for they that be with us are more than they that be with them. And Elisha prayed, and said, LORD, I pray thee, open his eyes, that he may see. And the LORD opened the eyes of the young man; and he saw: and, behold, the mountain was full of horses and chariots of fire round about Elisha.
- God has given us confidence in war - Psalm 27:3 Though an host should encamp against me, my heart shall not fear: though war should rise against me, in this will I be confident.
- God is master of the earth - Psalm 46:2 Therefore will not we fear, though the earth be removed, and though the mountains be carried into the midst of the sea;
- Only God can damn the soul - Psalm 56:4 In God I will praise his word, in God I have put my trust; I will not fear what flesh can do unto me. Psalm 118:6 The LORD is on my side; I will not fear: what can man do unto me? Matt. 10:28 And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.
- Vengence is God's - Isa. 35:4 Say to them that are of a fearful heart, Be strong, fear not: behold, your God will come with vengeance, even God with a recompence; he will come and save you.
- God will strengthen us - Isa. 41:10 Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness.
- God is our help - Isa. 41:13 For I the LORD thy God will hold thy right hand, saying unto thee, Fear not; I will help thee.
- God owns us - Isa. 43:1 But now thus saith the LORD that created thee, O Jacob, and he that formed thee, O Israel, Fear not: for I have redeemed thee, I have called thee by thy name; thou art mine.
- God hears our prayers - Dan. 10:12 Then said he unto me, Fear not, Daniel: for from the first day that thou didst set thine heart to understand, and to chasten thyself before thy God, thy words were heard, and I am come for thy words.
- God is the first and the last of the matter - Rev. 1:17 And when I saw him, I fell at his feet as dead. And he laid his right hand upon me, saying unto me, Fear not; I am the first and the last:

I would like to say that I don't have the spirit of fear but there are times that unfortunately I'm fearful and that only reveals to me my lack of faith.
When I truly came to Christ was when I heard a sermon about being fearful. The preacher said that if you are afraid of dying, you are not with God. At that time, I was terrified of dying. That sermon changed my life though and made me realize that there is nothing to fear. I do admit that I still fear some things and it does show a lack of Faith but I do not fear things like I did before I came to truly know God. Now when I am in fear, I turn to God and He takes it away.
Sis. Julie and Sis. Cindy,
Cindy, thanks for sharing a portion of your testimony of receiving Jesus Christ as your Saviour...
Julie, I believe all Christians have fear at various times in their walk with the Lord; the post showed, however, that the Word of God gives many reasons why we shouldn't fear.... God is in control!!!
#8 just leaped from the page for me. We are in a spiritual battle in these last days. No need to fear, "He's got my back". My front, side, top, bottom, and all I possess. He's got me in His hand, what safer place can there be?
