Marks of a Christian Leader
- Christian leadership is motivated by love and given over to service.
- No one should be more earnest in the pursuit of excellence than the Christian leader.
- God loathes mediocrity - Rev. 3:15-16 I know thy works, that thou art neither cold nor hot: I would thou wert cold or hot. So then because thou art lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will spue thee out of my mouth.
- Nothing less than the pursuit of excellence can possibly please God.
- Excellence assumes an objective.
- Christian leadership demands vision. Vision includes optimism and hope. Vision imparts venturesomeness.
- Excellence also assumes priorities. His priorities are in the proper order.
- The leader is a follower. It is a matter of following men insofar as they follow Christ.
- The leader is able to lead others only because he has conquered himself (through discipline) and in turn has been conquered by Christ.
- No leader should live under the delusion that he has finally arrived. Excellence requires constant evaluation, correction, and improvement. The process of leadership, therefore, never ends.
- Excellence demands that we be true to the best that God has placed within us.
- The true Christian leader must have given his life over to be controlled by the Holy Spirit which lives within him. All other qualifications are desirable, but this quality is indispensable.
- In God's scale of values, humility stands very high.
- Experience repeatedly bears out that you must really care about people to get them to perform at their best level.
- Righteous anger is another mark needed by the Christian leader.
- All Christian leaders must be accountable to someone else.
