Baptists

* A description of our heritage as written by C. H. Spurgeon *

We believe that the Baptists are the original Christians. We did not commence our existence at the Reformation, we were reformers before Luther or Calvin were born; we never came from the Church of Rome, for we were never in it, but we have an unbroken line up to the Apostles themselves. We have always existed from the very days of Christ, and our principles, sometimes veiled and forgotten, like a river which may travel underground for a little season, have always had honest and holy adherents. Persecuted alike by Romanists and Protestants of almost every sect, yet there has never existed a government holding Baptist principles which persecuted others; nor I believe, any body of Baptists even held it to be right to put the consciences of others under the control of man. We have ever been ready to suffer, as our martyrologies will prove, but we are not ready to accept any help from the State, to prostitute the purity of the Bride of Christ to any alliance with Government, and we will never make the Church, although the Queen, the despot over the consciences of men.

Not sure I am going to agree that baptist azre the only church. I went to one and got hurt very badly. I had the wrong bible and wrong type pf music and wore the wrong things and they were hurtful to me. On top of that I had CP and that made it hard to be loved. Some gave me a list that offended me because if I did n ot do the list they would not give me rides. pray

Shadman,

The BAPTIST church is the closest biblical based church around these days. Their doctrine is biblically based and they rely upon the Bible as their final authority. Now, I am aware there are many "baptist" churches that do not live up to their historic name, just as there are many "christians" who really aren't Christians in their faith and practice. I sent you an email message to discuss this further....

Sister Carolyn,

I don't get a chance to post as much as I would like to do, but I am glad that what I do get around to posting, some people are getting a blessing.

We miss your family and all the other faithful members of Sullins Branch Baptist Church very much too. We are praying!!!

Standing in the Gap,
Bro. Jim
