Reasons Why Some Do Not Read the Word of God

Jer. 15:16 Thy words were found, and I did eat them; and thy word was unto me the joy and rejoicing of mine heart: for I am called by thy name, O LORD God of hosts.

The Bible is the Word of God. It is worthy of being read and believed.

The Word of God, if neglected, will be our Judge at the last day. John 12:48 He that rejecteth me, and receiveth not my words, hath one that judgeth him: the word that I have spoken, the same shall judge him in the last day.

Seven Reasons Why Some Do Not Read the Word of God
  1. Ignorant of its truths; ignorant of its formation and the information it contains.
  2. Already "eaten up," feeding on ashes - feeding on politics, sports, hobbies, etc. Isa. 44:20 He feedeth on ashes: a deceived heart hath turned him aside, that he cannot deliver his soul, nor say, Is there not a lie in my right hand?
  3. Sickness - a sin sick soul has no appetite for the Word of God.
  4. Lunching between meals; living in the light, frivolous non-essentials of life.
  5. The Bible lacks flavor for some; business, sports, education have taken prime interest.
  6. The Bible is too sweet; some think the Word of God is only for the sick, aged, and dying - too sentimental for practical, healthy people - Rev. 10:8-10 And the voice which I heard from heaven spake unto me again, and said, Go and take the little book which is open in the hand of the angel which standeth upon the sea and upon the earth. And I went unto the angel, and said unto him, Give me the little book. And he said unto me, Take it, and eat it up; and it shall make thy belly bitter, but it shall be in thy mouth sweet as honey. And I took the little book out of the angel's hand, and ate it up; and it was in my mouth sweet as honey: and as soon as I had eaten it, my belly was bitter.
  7. The Bible is too bitter (see Rev. 10:8-10 above); the truths of judgment, hell, and sin are too bitter and some are afraid to read the Bible.

Psalm 34:8 O taste and see that the LORD is good: blessed is the man that trusteth in him.

..uhh possibly because the truths its based on are the epitome of ignorance and endless contradictions [ heres a few examples]
1. God is satisfied with his works
Gen 1:31
God is dissatisfied with his works.
2. God dwells in chosen temples
God dwells not in temples
Acts 7:48
3. God dwells in light
Tim 6:16
God dwells in darkness
1 Kings 8:12/ Ps 18:11/ Ps 97:2
4. God is seen and heard
Ex 33:23/ Ex 33:11/ Gen 3:9,10/ Gen 32:30/ Is 6:1/
Ex 24:9-11
God is invisible and cannot be heard
John 1:18/ John 5:37/ Ex 33:20/ 1 Tim 6:16..

..Already "eaten up," feeding on ashes - feeding on politics, sports, hobbies,
...or maybe one gets tired of all the killing and maiming and torture and wars created Along with his misogynistic attitude toward woman by this sadistic formless wonder so “ lovingly created by more ignorant minds who are self serving and self centered and then they cleverly call it “ god...
..Sickness - a sin sick soul has no appetite for the Word of God....
AGREED on that . but WHOSE GOD? it differs with differnt people who all read of the same " book".. so what they do is run to the ultimate book of fear and self loathing and confirm their pitiful existence through the murders and killings and endless contradictions as described in bible. [ just pick ANYONE of 10 versions, they all say they are the REAL one. …now THAT’S good logic isnt it? ..
..Lunching between meals; living in the light, frivolous non-essentials of life.......
hmmmm living in the LIGHT?? now thats sounds like peace of mind, respect for all creatures great and small , practicing acts of kindness and asking nothing in return. those are hardly rewarding as they have no monetary meaning, whereas in the religious mindset [ perpetuating DARKNESS] its all about control and MONEY and one cognitive spiritual possession after another. I guess a GOOD Christian of course would count those as “ essentials”. the more “ tangible elements, [ just look at the coffers in rome and what about that evangelical nut case Oral Roberts. with over a BILLION dollars in assets. YUP. now THAT’S an essential for sure.

..The Bible lacks flavor for some; business, sports, education have taken prime interest
.. I would think common sense which is a good diversion rather than endless fables and myths as projected by the evil dogmatic “ fathers” of the church with their guilt trips and philosophy of fear and self loathing which gets MORE that tiring after centuries of creating wars all in the name of “ god”. sounds like a little " vanilla" introspection is a welcome diversion
EDUCATION for SURE has replaced fear and self loathing as taught by all facets of religion, and what better blue print for confusion than the bible?.

..The Bible is too sweet; some think the Word of God is only for the sick, aged, and dying - too sentimental for practical, healthy people...
HEALTHY people are connected with their god, and NOT with a book that someone says it IS the word of god, as described by the reigning nutcases who jotted it down because THEY said it was so .,

Sattvicwarrior,

It's good to see that you haven't been burned out of your home from the recent fires experienced out your way!!!

Thanks for taking the time to comment, but again, from reviewing your post, one can easily see you have no grasp of the two following reading skills regarding the Word of God: context, and comprehension.

I have asked you before to simply read the Bible for yourself instead of reading what others say about the Bible, yet in our dialogue regarding certain passages in the past, one can readily discern that you have little understanding of His Word. Your examples of contradictions this time are very weak at best; you did much better typing the list from another resource back in January of this year.

Of course, this doesn't stop you from critizing its content, and provides you with ammo for pointing out your own favorite topics from the Old Testament writings, which clearly point out the deprived sin nature of mankind and nations who do not follow God. God has recorded both the good and bad of mankind in His Word. I'm sure there are things in your life that you would never record in your life story, yet God has recorded the bad things which have happened in even the most Godly men that have walked here on earth; i.e. David, Samson, and Paul.

Go ahead; criticize, mock, poke fun with God' Word; I still plan to interact with you and be one of your favorite Christian friends here on the Internet.

It's good to see you back.... I'm sure you will be learning some things!!!!!

one thing. i NEVER mock god. its his followers that i am addressing, and who knows, maybe you will learn something to. God works in strange ways.

That's an interesting concept!!! If one mocks a person's words, isn't he also guilty of mocking the one who said them?????

How do you know your god??? From what source to you know about him and his teachings??? How does he present his truth to all mankind???

If you desire to expose those "little c" christians which we have discussed before in the past, so be it.... expose god's and christian's, but understand there is a thing such as God and Christians!!!!! His Word is true, and there are those who sincerely desire to read and follow His teachings in today's world.

Your concept of Christianity has been poisoned at some point in your lifetime due to those "little c" christians... please just pick up God's Word and read it for yourself with no help from other critics and mockers!!!

Please forgive my wording in my last post.... I meant that you could learn from God's Word, which is usually found in each of my posts. My desire is to share the truth of God's Word with others...

I agree that God works in strange ways... just look at us, with two totally different viewpoints and lifestyles, talking with one another clear across the country!!!

Ps 119:89 For ever, O LORD, thy word is settled in heaven.
2 Tim. 3:16-17 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:
That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works.
Ps 12:6-7 The words of the LORD are pure words: as silver tried in a furnace of earth, purified seven times.Thou shalt keep them, O LORD, thou shalt preserve them from this generation for ever.
Mt 4:4 But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.

absolutely NOT. . a “ person “ is not GOD . it’s a PERSON . and its only from that concept precept or notion which is part of the thinking principle associated with ego [ duality] of which GOD is WITHOUT. so there is no comparison, its only and through observation and telling it like it is conclusions are drawn

How do you know your god???..
Its not an “INTELLECTULIZATION of a bunch of words haphazardly arranged in a format to presented as some sort of TRUTH . its and EXPERIENCE.

From what source to you know about him and his teachings???
.. again I state. god is EXPERIENCE not an intellectual concept, experience what say and you will KNOW god. but its INSIDE of you . NOT outside of you ..
How does he present his truth to all mankind???
.. why are you concerned with MANKIND when your [ like the rest of us] journey is PERSONAL with and identity with your creator. ???
If you desire to expose those "little c" christians which we have discussed before in the past, so be it.... expose god's and christian's, but understand there is a thing such as God and Christians!!!!! His Word is true, and there are those who sincerely desire to read and follow His teachings in today's world.
.. There is NO difference in the small “c” or the BIG “c”. all creatures are the SAME in the eyes of GOD. its MAN that has designated the difference. NOT god.

Your concept of Christianity has been poisoned at some point in your lifetime due to those "little c" christians... please just pick up God's Word and read it for yourself with no help from other critics and mockers!!!.
How arrogant of you to say what I AM or NOT, and to say i am poisoned [ assumed knowledge] is the height of arrogance indeed . Ive read MANY and if not ALL versions and for you to assume that I have not is a bit self righteous dont you think??? ..

Hmmmm ....and since no two people have the same exact, precise experience, it gives you the chance to define your own god!!! And of course, your own god would never judge you and your experience....

> There is NO difference in the small “c” or the BIG “c”. all creatures are the SAME in the eyes of GOD. its MAN that has designated the difference.

I beg to differ, and I'll use you to present my proof. You have no problem exposing those so-called christians which act in an unbiblical manner; yet you fail to mention those who submit and follow the Word of God and do acts of kindness toward their friends and neighbors and point out their good works... you clearly define a difference in Christianity...

> why are you concerned with MANKIND when your [ like the rest of us] journey is PERSONAL with and identity with your creator. ???

Because Jesus Christ commanded us to proclaim the good news to every person.... Christians don't live for self.... they give themselves to others through love and works of kindness.

Mt 28:19-20 Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:
Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.
Mr 16:15-16 And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature. He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned.
Lu 24:44-47 And he said unto them, These are the words which I spake unto you, while I was yet with you, that all things must be fulfilled, which were written in the law of Moses, and in the prophets, and in the psalms, concerning me. Then opened he their understanding, that they might understand the scriptures,
And said unto them, Thus it is written, and thus it behoved Christ to suffer, and to rise from the dead the third day: And that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in his name among all nations, beginning at Jerusalem.
Ac 1:8 But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.

Did you miss these verses during your reading, or did these words just happen to get recorded in a haphazard fashion by four different authors???

> Ive read MANY and if not ALL versions and for you to assume that I have not is a bit self righteous dont you think??? ..

Well, again I am puzzled.... why read the Bible at all if it's an EXPERIENCE.... that was simply a waste of valuable experience on your part.... especially when it contains; let's see, how did you say it.....

> “INTELLECTULIZATION of a bunch of words haphazardly arranged in a format to presented as some sort of TRUTH

I'm glad you have read God's Word.... I am sad that you didn't understand it.

1Co 2:9-16 But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him. But God hath revealed them unto us by his Spirit: for the Spirit searcheth all things, yea, the deep things of God. For what man knoweth the things of a man, save the spirit of man which is in him? even so the things of God knoweth no man, but the Spirit of God. Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the spirit which is of God; that we might know the things that are freely given to us of God. Which things also we speak, not in the words which man's wisdom teacheth, but which the Holy Ghost teacheth; comparing spiritual things with spiritual. But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned. But he that is spiritual judgeth all things, yet he himself is judged of no man. For who hath known the mind of the Lord, that he may instruct him? But we have the mind of Christ.

Thanks for taking the time to share your thoughts....

VERY good point,. I think the underlying toes here on my part is that People should clean their OWN house before they try and tell others how to live. So in this sense you are quite right. Its not Christ that is the problem . its his FOLLOWERS as I stated once before. SO I would think one would want to get their OWN act together before they define their morality for the mass's [ no pun intended].

. . uhhhh dude. WHO said it was a WASTE of time? NOT me. YOU did with your endless assumptions. I found it fascinating, and certainly gave me a perspective of middle eastern philosophy when cross referenced with other books and sects of the same era.. It created a whole different perspective, and was most educational, it gives one KNOWLEDGE. and KNOWLEDGE is the divine luminious wisdom that dispels the darkness.

Just being honest... your comments and email discussions for the past seven or eight months have shown me very little understanding of the Word of God from your end... to be even more exact, you usually ignore the posted verses from God's Word altogether...

My comments are based only on our individual discussions... I have no idea what KNOWLEDGE you exhibit on your own blog page... I have only visited a time or two... I saw enough there to see your exposure of so-called christians, but no exposure of their walk as it disobeys the Word of God....

Exactly!!! If a follower is not behaving Christ-like in his interaction with his fellow man, then he is not a true FOLLOWER... he is a counterfeit, little "c" christian who uses the label but shows very little Christianity.... those you like to point out are behaving un-Biblically!!! That is what I have been trying to tell you all along.., You have a problem with them, just as I, but you seem to paint all Christianity in that same light!!! You are looking at failed men instead of looking at God and His Word.

But you also must remember, Jesus Christ was perfect as a man; He had no sin; He treated no man unjustly. Sincere Christians, who do their best to read God's Word and put its commands and teachings into practice, are not perfect, and because of sin, have their own shortcomings... they will fall, but they will ask forgiveness, pick themselves back up, and go forward, learning to do better as they continue to grow in the knowledge of God's Word.

> People should clean their OWN house before they try and tell others how to live.

I have no right to tell you how to live... I know very little of your lifestyle, just as you know very little about mine. I could be the biggest hypocrit here in NC regarding Christianity and God's Word for all you know....

God however, as our Creator, has the right to issue commands regarding our life. He doesn't force us to obey though; we have a free will to obey or disobey. He will judge our life based on His revealed Word to mankind.

Christians have been commanded to share the truth of His Word with all creatures.... but Christians have not been told to tell someone how to live. They may share what God says about some action, but it is not up to them to force them or judge them with their resultant action. Here is a verse for you which shows this truth:

I Peter 4:17 For the time is come that judgment must begin at the house of God: and if it first begin at us, what shall the end be of them that obey not the gospel of God?

> KNOWLEDGE is the divine luminious wisdom that dispels the darkness.

Knowledge puffs up.... wisdom (godly wisdom not worldly wisdom) is our great need.

Example of worldly knowledge

2 Tim. 3:7-9 Ever learning, and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth. Now as Jannes and Jambres withstood Moses, so do these also resist the truth: men of corrupt minds, reprobate concerning the faith. But they shall proceed no further: for their folly shall be manifest unto all men, as theirs also was.

Example of Godly knowledge

1 Tim 2:4-5
Who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth. For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus;

John 1:4-5 In him was life; and the life was the light of men. And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not.

Joh 1:9 That was the true Light, which lighteth every man that cometh into the world.

1Jo 1:5
¶ This then is the message which we have heard of him, and declare unto you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all.
1Jo 1:6
If we say that we have fellowship with him, and walk in darkness, we lie, and do not the truth:
1Jo 1:7
But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin.
1Jo 1:8
¶ If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.
1Jo 1:9
If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
1Jo 1:10
If we say that we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us.

Prov 1:7 The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge: but fools despise wisdom and instruction.

Pr 2:6 For the LORD giveth wisdom: out of his mouth cometh knowledge and understanding.

Prov 3:13 Happy is the man that findeth wisdom, and the man that getteth understanding.

Pr 4:7 Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom: and with all thy getting get understanding.

Eph 1:17 That the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give unto you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of him:

.. uhhhh yeah . your right . because its NOT YOU !!! its a BOOK . [ and seriously marred at that ]. ANYBODY can quote ANYTHING . but that does NOT promote truth . At what stage of your life did you come to this conclusion??? Did you discover this on your own, or did someone teach you this??? What are the differences in your life prior to your initial EXPERIENCE with god and to this day forward???

> its a BOOK . [ and seriously marred at that ].

I'm getting a little confused... first it's "the epitome of ignorance and endless contradictions".... then you "found it fascinating" and "it gives one KNOWLEDGE. and KNOWLEDGE is the divine luminious wisdom that dispels the darkness.".... then you say it is "seriously marred"

Please tell me your secret regarding how you can read the Bible and discern those things that are profitable for your knowledge vs. those things that are seriously marred??? Did you EXPERIENCE this from god or some one else through teaching or reading a book??? When did this occur in your lifetime, and what exactly has changed from your previous lifestyle to that which you follow today with this TRUTH and EXPERIENCE.

It sounds as if you are saying it is unique for each individual... does this EXPERIENCE have any bearing on eternity, or do you simply believe death ends it all???

Thanks in advance for answering a few of these questions if you get a chance....
