Playing The Fool
1 Sam. 26:21 Then said Saul, I have sinned: return, my son David: for I will no more do thee harm, because my soul was precious in thine eyes this day: behold, I have played the fool, and have erred exceedingly.
Playing The Fool (as seen in the Psalms)
- A man plays the fool when he does evil things - Ps. 5:5 The foolish shall not stand in thy sight: thou hatest all workers of iniquity.
- A man plays the fool when he denies the existence of God - Ps. 14:1 The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God. They are corrupt, they have done abominable works, there is none that doeth good.
- A man plays the fool when he builds his whole life around money - Ps. 49:10 For he seeth that wise men die, likewise the fool and the brutish person perish, and leave their wealth to others.
- A man plays the fool when he is enamored with the prosperity of the wicked - Ps. 73:3 For I was envious at the foolish, when I saw the prosperity of the wicked.
- A man plays the fool when he does not give respect to God in his life - Ps 74:18,22 Remember this, that the enemy hath reproached, O LORD, and that the foolish people have blasphemed thy name. Arise, O God, plead thine own cause: remember how the foolish man reproacheth thee daily.
- A man plays the fool when he trifles with the things of God - Ps. 92:5-7 O LORD, how great are thy works! and thy thoughts are very deep. A brutish man knoweth not; neither doth a fool understand this. When the wicked spring as the grass, and when all the workers of iniquity do flourish; it is that they shall be destroyed for ever:
- A man plays the fool when he does not understand the consequence of sin - Ps. 107:17 Fools because of their transgression, and because of their iniquities, are afflicted.
