How to be a Failure at Soul Winning

(another issue of our church's visitation newsletter "Go Ye")

1. Don't go looking for souls, make them come looking for you. John 4:4 And he must needs go through Samaria.
2. Have the attitude that others getting saved is none of your business. Mark 16:15 And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.
3. Tell yourself, "What will be will be and I can't do anything about it." Rev 22:17 And the Spirit and the bride say, Come. And let him that heareth say, Come. And let him that is athirst come. And whosoever will, let him take the water of life freely.
4. Become a Pharisee and point out their faults or a spiritual geologist that looks for faults. Phil. 4:8 Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.
5. Complain all evening about things that your family is doing at home. Eph. 4:29 Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying, that it may minister grace unto the hearers.
6. Have the attitude that "it won't work" or "they won't get saved." Gal. 6:9 And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not.
7. Criticize the Preacher and all the staff all evening. James 3:6 And the tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity: so is the tongue among our members, that it defileth the whole body, and setteth on fire the course of nature; and it is set on fire of hell.
8. Be very smug or talk a lot about yourself. 3 John 1:9 I wrote unto the church: but Diotrephes, who loveth to have the preeminence among them, receiveth us not.
9. Always do your soul winning indirectly and never directly. Matt. 10:32-33 Whosoever therefore shall confess me before men, him will I confess also before my Father which is in heaven. But whosoever shall deny me before men, him will I also deny before my Father which is in heaven.
10. Convince yourself that soul winning is a gift and you have never received it. Mark 16:15 And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.
11. Believe that soul winning is beneath your dignity. Rom. 12:3 For I say, through the grace given unto me, to every man that is among you, not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think; but to think soberly, according as God hath dealt to every man the measure of faith.
12. Don't carry your New Testament. Rely on your memory or a tract. Rev. 22:18-19 For I testify unto every man that heareth the words of the prophecy of this book, If any man shall add unto these things, God shall add unto him the plagues that are written in this book: And if any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the book of life, and out of the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book.
13. Be intolerent to the attitude of lost people. Don't take anything off anybody. Prov. 18:23-24 The poor useth intreaties; but the rich answereth roughly. A man that hath friends must shew himself friendly: and there is a friend that sticketh closer than a brother.
14. Force people to make a decision just so you can put their name in your New Testament. 2 Cor. 5:20 Now then we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God did beseech you by us: we pray you in Christ's stead, be ye reconciled to God.
15. Forget all common sense. Act professional. Just be a tape recording. Prov. 8:8-9 All the words of my mouth are in righteousness; there is nothing froward or perverse in them. They are all plain to him that understandeth, and right to them that find knowledge.

Prov. 11:30 The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life; and he that winneth souls is wise.

These are popular excuses that I get when talking to others about their lack of soul-winning. I have to say to my shame that I have even used some of them at one time or another. But you posted Scripture for each excuse and that is a blessing!! I might have to print those off so I can use them for later reference. Thank you for this post Bro. Jim.

Sister Julie, I am sure we all will want to provide excuses as we stand before the Lord and answer His question regarding how we have "preached the gospel to every creature,"....

The key is being submissive to the Holy Spirit living within us... very few of us 100% follow the promptings of the Holy Spirit in our lives.... and because we don't, we are missing out on some blessing from acting out on that prompting.... Lord, allow me to be controlled by the Holy Spirit in all that I do!!!

Came to your site through Sis. Julie's blog roll. Love the name of your blog--Standing in the Gap. I have referenced that scripture a time or two on my blog--Partners in Prayer for our Prodigals--as I have been standing in the gap for my loved one.

We are not standing in the gap alone--He provides!

Diane,

Thanks for stopping by and leaving a comment.... today we need Christians who are willing to stand in the gap more than ever; however, just as in Ezekiel's days, there are not too many to be found; Ezekiel found none!!!

Yeah that about takes away all the excuses why we are not a soul winner. This is a good post. Not only are most people not spirit led most people are not concerned about souls going to Hell. I am as guilty at making excuses as the next but it does not change the fact that we are suppose to tell others about Jesus.
