The Power of God's Word

(Here is a sermon outline sent recently to me by Bro. Tom Walker of preacherscorner.org)

The Power of God’s Word

Read Heb. 4:12. The Word of God could be likened to the power that comes from a mighty reservoir. If we are to know God’s almighty power in our lives, then we must feed upon His Word. What does the Bible have power to do?

I. It Has Power To Convict of Sin- (Acts 2:37). When the people heard the Word of God they were pricked in their hearts. Those under conviction said to Peter and the rest of the apostles, "Men and brethren, what shall we do?" It is conviction of sin that gets you ready for repentance and faith.
II. It Has Power To Regenerate- (I Pet. 1:23). We are born again by the Word of God. His Word is not something that comes and goes, but it is stable and permanent. It lives and abides forever and ever.
III. It Has Power To Produce Faith- (Rom. 10:17). Faith comes by hearing and hearing by the Word of God. This fact stresses the importance of preaching the Word of God both to lost sinners and to the saints. No wonder Paul said, "Woe is me if I preach not the gospel."
IV. It Has Power To Cleanse- (Eph. 5:25). We are washed of water by the Word of God. "Water" there has reference to God’s Word. Nothing will cleanse us like truth will!
V. It Has Power To Build Up- (Acts 20:32). The word of His grace is able to build up the saints. There has to be spiritual growth after we are saved. At times you will be discouraged and will constantly need built up in the most holy faith.
VI. It Has Power To Make Wise- (Psm. 119:130). When the Word of God enters into our hearts, it gives understanding to the simple. "Simple" can mean "open minded." Those who are open to what God says are the ones who become wise.
VII. It Has Power To Give Assurance- (I Jn. 5:13). If we rest and trust in what the Bible says to us, we can be assured we are children of God.
