The Crusades And “Those Violent Christians”

(Below is an article by Larry Spargimino found in the February 25, 2008 Eagle newsletter)

It has been customary for secularists, atheists and the proponents of creating an environment hostile to Christianity in the public sector, to argue that all religions are the same.

The Crusades are cited as an example of “the bloody history of Christianity.” They are cited as proof that military conflicts and the promise of forgiveness of sins granted to “Christian warriors” are examples of a “Christian jihad.” They are examples of a “Christian offensive” against innocent, peace-loving people.

This would be laughable if it were not believed, and taught, in colleges and universities, and through left-wing media outlets, i.e., “Western mainstream media.”

For one thing, the Bible nowhere encourages Christians to enter into an armed conflict for the purpose of extending the faith. Supporting the imperialistic goals of the papacy is not taught in the Bible. Moreover, the idea of any Christian warrior finding remission of sins by going to war is nowhere taught in Scripture. We come to enjoy forgiveness of sins through the shed blood of Jesus Christ, and faith in His once-and-for-all finished work on the cross.

And the idea of innocent, peace-loving Muslims in the Middle Ages is as ludicrous as a one-eyed porcupine dancing the polka.

In his book Religion of Peace? Why Christianity Is and Islam Isn’t, award-winning author, Robert Spencer, writes “the Crusades were a late and small-scale response to Islamic jihad conquests that began 450 years before the First Crusade and overwhelmed what had been up to the time of these conquests over half of Christendom.”

The public schools, colleges and the secular media, along with governmental pundits and Congressman who are too busy living the good life to read what they are signing into law, thrive on ignorance. Indeed, Jesus put forth the pre-eminence of truth for all to see when He said: “Ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free” (John 8:32).

Thanks for sharing this article. This is the most detailed rebuttal I've seen in a public forum concerning the accusations against Christianity in relation to Islam.

I love your blog and have added the feed to my reader, so I can read regularly. Keep on standing in the gap. God Bless.

Karen,

Thank you for stopping by and leaving those kind words about my blogsite....

Most of the problems associated with RELIGION today is based on ignorance of the Bible, God's written word to mankind. People do not read it, nor do they believe it is from God.... but in turn, they blame God for all the heartaches and destruction in this world.

I am glad there are some who still read and believe the BOOK, God's Holy Bible!!!

Thanks again for your kind words.

you say!!!!
The sad result is children growing up in a world choosing value systems much like they choose computer operating systems.
THATS RIGHT ON DUDE!> BUT ITS NOT THE CHILDRENS FAULT. . ITS THE FAULT OF THE PARENTS. THEY HAD NO " VALUES" BECAUSE THEY GREW UP IN THE " ME ME ME " GENERATION.. SO THEY PASS THE SAME NONSENSE ON TO THIER STUPID CHILDREN AND THEIR CHILDREN ARE STUPID BECAUSE THIER PARENTS ARE STUPID ALSO. . its that simple, So to blame sociey in general is in itself a sweeping generalization, and to offer ONE path as a pacacea as you suggest for all is a but simplistic also. well meaning of course. but a bit shortsighted. these are the SAME STUPID people that blame god, and are found throughout ALL churchs in ALL denomonations in a warped collective consciousness of which they seceretly buy thier way into creating a false sense of salvation which was taught by thier own generation previous the same garbage.

Sattvicwarrior,

Glad to see you stop by again... your perspective of the true cause of the downward "values" system is interesting.... just exactly when did this "me me me" generation take place, and were the children responsible for these values, or were their parents??? Are you presently living the "values" that your parents passed down to you, or did you come up with them on your own through the influence of peers, media, educational system, religion, and the general society during your walk through life???

THANKS AND MY APOLOGIZIES FOR NOT RESPONDING TO YOU LAST PERSONAL NOTE .
your perspective of the true cause of the downward "values" system is interesting.... just exactly when did this "me me me" generation take place,
THE "ME" GENERATION BECAME MOST PREDOMINANT WHEN OUR SOCIETY BECAME MORE AFFLUENT AND STARTED TO GRAVITATE TOWARD A MORE MATERIALISTIC PERSPECTIVE WHICH EVOLVED OUT OF THE 60'S.
and were the children responsible for these values, or were their parents???
A COMBINATION OF BOTH . TO LUMP EVERYONE INTO THE SAME CATEGORY IS NOT REALLY A FAIR ASSESSMENT [ as wonderful as you come off most times you have a REAL problem with sweeping generalizations] THERE ARE CHILDREN OF THESE MATERIALISTIC NOMADS WHO ALSO DEVELOPED VERY SPIRITUALLY AND FOUND A GREATER CONNECTION WITH THEIR CREATOR [ IN A TRUE} SENSE WITHOUT DISTORTED CENTURIES OF WARPED DOGMA [ biblical infusion ] BECAUSE OF ONES OWN NATURAL ABILITY TO QUESTION THEIR PLACE IN THE UNIVERSE…

Are you presently living the "values" that your parents passed down to you, or did you come up with them on your own through the influence of peers, media, educational system, religion, and the general society during your walk through life???
A COMBINATION OF EVERYTHING YOU ASKED. IN YOUR QUESTION

Sattvicwarrior,

Thanks for your quick response... please remember that the post is simply an entire article written by another person clearly identified in the original post, so don't give me the entire credit for those sweeping generalizations.... although I do agree with his general thoughts.

I tend to agree with your assessment of the timing of the "me me me" generation... it is clearly within my lifetime, and as I look back, I continue to see us as a nation slowly on a downhill spiral... but you agree we are watching a "modern" change in society???

As far as your answer to the last question, I was just looking for some clarification.... you seemed to place blame entirely on parents in your first response vs. society in general... but now you have accepted a part from each area mentioned.

Thanks for taking the time to answer....

DUDE!!!!!!!! WHEN ARE YOU GOING TO " TAKE CHARGE" AND TAKE ALL THE CREDIT . GOOD OR BAD? I PERSONALLY THINK YOU HAVE MORE TO OFFER.........WHEN DO WE GET TO HEAR " YOU"?? WITH OUT ALL THE DOGMATIC GARBAGE? ARE YOU SO AFRAID OF YOUR REAL SELF YOU HAVE TO USE THE CRUTCH OF OTHERS?

. although I do agree with his general thoughts.
" GENERAL" SEEMS TO BE THE STATUS QUO

I tend to agree with your assessment of the timing of the "me me me" generation... it is clearly within my lifetime, and as I look back, I continue to see us as a nation slowly on a downhill spiral..
HEYTYYYYYYYYYY?? CMON . LIGHTEN UP . " DOWNWARD" SPIRAL??
THATS SILLY . CHANGE INVOLVES A " SHIFT". DOSENT MAKE IT BAD OR GOOD. ITS JUST A" SHIFT" OF THE THINKING PRINCIPLE. . SINCE TECHNICALLY ITS ALL TRANSIENT BY NATURE , DOESNT MEAN ITS RIGHT OR WRONG.. ITS JUST A DIFFERNT PERSPECTIVE. .. WHICH IS NOT FINAL AND IS SUBJECT TO CHANGE LIKE EVERYTHING ELSE IN THIS ILLUSION WE CALL REALITY.

. but you agree we are watching a "modern" change in society???
YES.............

YUP
THEY ARE ONE IN THE SAME. . NOT NECESAIRLY PARENTAL , NOR SOCIETIAL , BUT A COLLECTIVE CONSCIOUSNESS OF JUST A GENERAL IGNORENCE [ LACK OF TRUTH ]. EN MASSE.. lifes like that ya know:).. [ or do ya?????;)]

Sattvicwarrior,

Thank you for thinking I have something to offer people....

And thanks for agreeing that there has been a "change" we both can see in our own lifetimes...
